Anderson Executive Education Programs

Dr. Robin Johnson has been involved as curriculum designer and faculty member in the multicultural Leadership Suite at the UCLA Anderson School of Business.  She is faculty director of the LBGT Leadership Institute.

The UCLA Leadership Suite programs examine management and leadership issues from the perspective of each of specific audiences: African American; Latino; people with disabilities, women; and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender managers.   They share with all leaders the need to convey credibility, foster career-building alliances, and master the informally learned nuances of management. Yet, being perceived as "different" or "other" presents unique challenges as these managers seek to establish themselves within their organizations.  Participants and their organizations make a one-week investment for each of these leadership development programs.

Dr. Johnson is best known for teaching the following topics in the programs listed below:
LEADERSHIP - Theory, Styles, Power and Influence Strategies.  She often uses her book Dance of Leadership, as well as mini-biographical cases of multicultural leaders she has written, questionnaires she has designed, and other teaching innovations.

TEAMS - with a strong emphasis on team design and dynamics, as well as the interlocking skills needed to lead multicultural teams.  She uses a simulation and provides background materials via her audio CD called Leading Your Multicultural Team to High Performance.

CAREER MANAGEMENT - helping participants understand the importance of managing their careers while building their skills as coaches and mentors to the people they manage.  The Career by Design workbook and Audio CD Dr. Johnson wrote helps participants continue their progress even after the program is completed.

MULTICULTURALISM-DIVERSITY-INCLUSION.  Dr. Johnson's inclusive definition of diversity and her interactive approach using multiple learning modalities, reduces the tension typical of many diversity sessions, while increasing awareness, sensitivity, and effectiveness of participants who manage cross cultural conflict-interactions.
